Pity Punch

Recipe:

2 cups of self-doubt
3 negative nay-sayers
pinch of low Vitamin D
1 flippin’ New England winter
20 hours overanalyzing website and book sale metrics

It’s officially been three weeks since I launched http://www.thefoodthatfits.com/ website and announced to my family, friends, clients and colleagues that I published a book and it is available for sale.  There have been glimmers of a sales response, great feedback on the cover and a splash of “that’s a clever concept.”  More than anything, I can sum up the last three weeks as underwhelming.  Perhaps I have read too many stories about overnight success.  While I did not expect Oprah to invite me to dinner, I expected things to “go viral” a bit more than they have.

So, on this freezing rain Monday morning, I am dumping the remains of this recipe and getting back to my steady diet of “if I build it, they will continue to come……just give them time.”

Amore!

What if I invited you to spend the rest of your life married to someone you hate, sleep on a bed of nails, wear a fabric that makes your skin itch and sit in a freezer without a coat?   Have I conjured up enough imagery of you not enjoying yourself?  Let me add one more….eat food you dislike.

During a counseling session, I asked a man what he attributed his weight loss success to and his response was “I eat foods I dislike so that I don’t want to eat too much of them.”  It sounds as though there is a thread of rationale woven into his approach yet, this would not be my antidote for a healthy long-term relationship with anyone or anything, including food.

Do you wear clothes that you hate?  things that are too small?  fabrics that make your skin crawl?  styles that don’t flatter you?  I don’t think so.  In fact, my standards have gotten more finicky with age.  I consign, donate or pitch anything I don’t love.

We can hear the illogic in my opening examples of an unhappy marriage or sleeping on nails, yet, when it comes to food we can often find ourselves using twisted logic.  While it is true that you don’t want to overindulge in excessive quantities of food you love, loving what you eat can help you feel satisfied and feeling satisfied is an important component to achieving serenity with food.

Are you eating foods you love?  If you are, is it nurturing your relationship with food?

Welcome!

Welcome to The Food That Fits blog, a place in which we entertain the notion that if the food fits, many other things will be enhanced for you as well.   This blog invites you to share your ideas, responses, and reactions to the book, the blog posts and just about anything having to do with food.    Tell me what you cooked for dinner last night or tell me why you hate to cook.  One thing I can assure you - this is not a puritan food blog where only perfectionists are allowed.  I eat and I cheat.  I rise and I fall on the topic too.  It will allow us to expand where the book does not and it will take your ideas and further the fashionable food discussion I have begun.  Fashion and food share endless possibilities and creativity.  Come and join me between your pleasurable food experiences and your shopping extravaganzas with the girls.....we've got lots to talk about.
